GL: To kick things off, what people should know about your background?

HM: I studied Biomedical Engineering and Arts (German major) and completed my engineering honours thesis on the design of two paediatric orthopaedic implants with the amazing team at the EPIC lab located in the Children's Hospital at Westmead. I couldn't see myself pursuing further research at the time so took a leap and landed as an Associate management consultant for L.E.K. Consulting.

GL: What drew you to Giant Leap?

HM: I'm a problem solver at heart and have always wanted to invest my energy into making the world better, one day at a time. When I found Giant Leap I couldn't believe how well aligned its Impact Themes were with my personal beliefs and values. I knew it would be the perfect fit.

I'm so excited to be able to use the skills and experiences I've accumulated over the last few years to invest in impact-driven founders and support them on their journey to change the world for good!

GL: What are your key interest areas within impact?

HM: I'm fascinated by anything biomedical or healthcare-related that has the ability to tangibly improve people's quality of life. I know Australia has the skills to produce more game-changing medical device companies like Cochlear and Resmed, but also platforms and educational tools that can improve the efficiency and quality of our healthcare system.

At the same time, I'm super passionate about encouraging more young women and people from diverse backgrounds into STEM careers. Most start ups need a technical cofounder at some stage and I want to show more young girls that role could be theirs! In my spare time, you'll find me volunteering for Power of Engineering helping to shape a more diverse engineering workforce.

GL: What advice do you have for others seeking work in the impact space?

HM: Check out Giant Leap's impact startup ecosystem directory and jobs board - there's plenty of opportunity out there if you have an impact heart!

GL: What are you looking forward to most?

HM: Meeting people in the community! I'm super keen to connect, learn people's stories and see how I can help.

GL: Alright, quick fire round... favourite interests?

HM: I'm obsessed with women's football, you'll find me staying up to date with both the Women's Super League & Champions League!

GL: Favourite listens of the moment?

HM: I always end up in the top 5% of Taylor Swift listeners on Spotify RoundUp - it can't be helped. I'm also listening to the No Stupid Questions podcast and the Encanto Soundtrack.

GL: New Years Resolution?

HM: Run a half marathon - I've never run more than the City to Surf but I heard Molly Seidel ran her first marathon at 26 before heading to the Olympics and winning Bronze so there's clearly no time like the present!
